A Writing Circle for Black Men

Register
What to Expect

Solomon’s Circle is a four-month writing group for Black men who are actively working on a body of creative work—poetry, fiction, essays, memoir, or hybrid forms. Inspired by the biblical figure of Solomon and the intimacy, lyricism, and truth-telling of the Song of Solomon, this circle is a sacred container for craft, discipline, and voice.

This is a space for Black men to write boldly, honestly, and in community.

This is not a casual workshop.

It is a commitment to the craft.

❋ Duration

Four Months | Cohort 1: February- May 2026

❋ Sessions + Price

Eight Sessions (bi-weekly) broken into craft sessions and Writing + Community sessions.

Total contribution is $100 for facilitated sessions, workbook, and additional materials.

❋ Meeting Modality

We will meet via Zoom or Google Meets.

❋ A Supportive Space

Our group unapologetically centers the lives and livelihoods of Black men, across gender identity and experiences. We remain steadfast in honoring the myriad ways Black menfolk have existed and will exist in the future.

Toni Morrison talks with Farrah Jasmine Griffin about the importance of artists "pushing through" the dark times to create your work.

“A society must assume that it is stable, but the artist must know, and he must let us know, that there is nothing stable under heaven,” James Baldwin (August 2, 1924–December 1, 1987)
Session One of every Month

Writing & Dialogue

Our first session of the month is split between writing in response to a prompt and discussing each others work in smaller breakout groups. These small groups serve as accountability partners for your projects.

Session Two of every month

Craft Session

Our second sessions focus on the craft of writing itself. Our first hour consists of either presentation or close study of particular material, sometimes a guest facilitator. In our second hour we’ll do close reading of our peers work, provide constructive feedback grounded in care and rigor.

  • I'm writing all the books I wish I had when I was a kid. I just want young people to read my books and feel cared for, feel safe, feel like there's someone else in the world who understands - or at least acknowledges - your existence.

    Jason Reynolds

  • "Go home and write / a page tonight. / And let that page come out of you - / Then, it will be true"

    Langston Hughes

  • “I prefer to be true to myself, even at the hazard of incurring the ridicule of others, rather than to be false, and to incur my own abhorrence.”

    Frederick Douglass
